Parent FAQ
Why start with an assessment?
Because every student is different. The assessment figures out where they are, what they want to build, and what kind of guidance will actually move them forward. Starting without one means guessing.
Is this tutoring or project coaching?
Project coaching. We don't teach syntax drills or work through textbooks. We help students scope and build real projects using AI tools — and develop the vocabulary and judgment to use those tools well.
Does my child need prior coding experience?
No. The assessment determines their starting level. Some students start from zero; others are already building with AI tools and just need structure and guidance to finish things.
What if my child already knows more than a normal tutor?
That's exactly who Merton Studio is for. If your student has outgrown generic tutoring — or a tutor who can't keep up with what they're already building with AI — this is the right environment.
Can this support academic or portfolio projects?
Yes — the Portfolio Track produces organized, well-documented, demonstrable projects. We don't promise admissions outcomes, but a real project shows genuine initiative and skill.
What tools does my child need?
A Mac or Windows laptop. We'll assess their current setup and recommend tools during the assessment. If setup help is needed, the AI Setup Add-On covers it.
Can we add setup help to the first session?
Yes. The AI Setup Add-On can be combined with the assessment or any coaching session. Mention it when you book.
Will pricing change?
We are in a pilot phase. Pricing may evolve as the program develops. Pilot families lock in their current rate for the duration of their package.
